Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Index Futures

The massive growth of ESG investing has created demand for sophisticated or diversified index concepts that move away from existing benchmarks and derivatives to versions that reflect these sustainability factors.

Launched on 18 February, 2019 >261,000 contracts traded with an Open Interest of EUR 786 million.
First European futures on ESG Benchmark Index

The three new futures on the highly liquid European STOXX® benchmarks (FESX and FXXP) covering ESG Exclusions, Low Carbon and Climate Impact help market participants address the challenges and opportunities of ESG driven asset management. Asset owners can further manage unwanted sustainability risks, seek additional alpha and better meet their various investment mandates.

Eurex ESG derivatives on three STOXX® indexes

  • STOXX® Europe 600 ESG-X Index Futures (FSEG)
ESG screened version of Europe’s key benchmark index futures: STOXX® Europe 600. The new index with exclusion criteria launched in November 2018 is based on the Social Responsible Investment (SRI) policy of leading asset owners.

 Key highlights

  • Cost-efficient access to liquid benchmarks with an ESG mindset instead of capital-intensive ETFs and/or customized structured products.
  • Simple and fast integration into existing trading infrastructures as the new ESG Futures have the familiar standardized Eurex equity index contract specifications.
  • Adapted solution for asset managers with strict mandates to achieve ESG compliance.
  • ESG Futures are eligible for portfolio margin offsets against other Equity & Index (including Dividend) products using Eurex’s risk management technology Prisma.
  • Liquidity Provider Incentive scheme to be offered to support on-screen price provision.
