European Energy Exchange (EEX)

In December 2007, the European Energy Exchange (EEX), Eurex, Eurex Clearing and European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC) initiated their alliance whereby members of Eurex/Eurex Clearing are able to trade the emissions products listed at EEX using their existing Eurex infrastructure and clear trades using their existing Eurex Clearing membership infrastructure.

European Commodity Clearing AG is the primary Clearing House for exchange-traded emission rights on the European Energy Exchange and Eurex Clearing has established a connection to the European Commodity Clearing AG, allowing Eurex members to settle transactions executed on EEX using their Eurex Clearing membership.

This innovative alliance allows Eurex Clearing Members to cost-effectively leverage their existing membership (and the benefits that Eurex Clearing brings to the markets) to access the liquidity pools of EEX.

The following products listed at EEX can be cleared within the Eurex Energy (EEX) Clearing License:

  • EUA Futures (EUA: European Union Emission Allowances)
  • CER Futures (CER: Certified Emission Reductions)
  • Options on EUA Futures (EUA: European Union Emission Allowances)
